Fender Bass: Choose The Right One

By: Dan Wright

Electric guitars have been popular since their invention because of the sound options offered through amplification including many special effects. One name that stands out among these guitars is the Fender Bass, not only as a best buy bass guitar for its quality and reliability, but because the name itself almost means "bass guitar" to so many musicians and music fans alike.

The Fender brand has been around since 1946, ever since Leo Fender created his electronic solid body bass and opened his California-based company. While other firms produced electric basses, Fender's were the first to be successfully mass marketed. In later years, the Fender company was bought by a larger corporation, but then reacquired by the employees. Its headquarters are now in Scottsdale, Arizona, while the guitars are manufactured around the world in Korea, Japan, Mexico and Corona, California.

While buyers can ease their concerns with the Fender Bass being a quality instrument, let alone the fact it comes with many guarantees and warranties to cover it, choosing the instrument itself is the daunting process. This is primarily due to the many options, colors, and choices a buyer must consider.

Price is an important consideration for most people looking for an instrument, but the style of the guitar should be even more important. Different sounds will come from different styles of instruments and different kinds of wood, and each individual musician will want to find a style that they like. Also, the necks, frets, keyboards, and shapes of the instrument will be perfect for one musician but uncomfortable or unnatural for others.

While some guitars are well suited for mellow jazz, others are better suited for driving rock and roll. Fender Basses are available for both of these styles and many others, such as country or blues music. Numerous stars have used Fender guitars over the decades, and the brand is held in very high esteem. Indeed, one artist renamed himself Freddy Fender after his favorite brand of guitars.

Even small details like a coating or no coating on the fret board will change the sound and even a good guitar can sound less desirable on a poor amplifier. It is important to get the best equipment you can afford that meets your needs rather than trying to settle for some instrument that will never make you happy. The only real way to choose a Fender Bass model is to try them out and see which one is the best fit, then to shop for the best price and finance if necessary.

Try out the models to see if you want a jazz type, a classic precision line, or another design by going to the company website to locate dealers in your area. People generally find several that are what they are looking for this way, and can then narrow down the choices by price and look.
